How to Choose the Right Online Quran Teacher for Your Child

With so many online Quran academies available today, choosing the right teacher for your child can feel overwhelming. Here's a practical checklist to help you make a confident decision.

1. Verified Credentials

Ask whether the teacher's Quranic education and Ijazah (certification chain) have actually been verified by the academy, not just claimed. A genuine Ijazah means the teacher's recitation has been checked and approved by a qualified scholar, in an unbroken chain going back generations.

2. Experience Teaching Children Specifically

Teaching adults and teaching young children are very different skills. Ask whether the teacher has specific experience with your child's age group, and whether they use engaging methods — stories, games, repetition — rather than a rigid, adult-style lesson structure.

3. One-on-One vs Group Classes

Group classes can be more affordable, but a child who is shy, easily distracted, or behind their peers often benefits enormously from one-on-one attention, where the pace and style adapt entirely to them.

4. A Real Free Trial — Not Just a Sales Call

A genuine trial lesson should be a real, live class with the actual teacher your child would study with — not a marketing call. This is your chance to see how the teacher interacts with your child, how patient they are, and whether your child responds well to their style.

5. Flexibility and Communication

Check whether the academy allows you to change teachers if the fit isn't right, offers flexible scheduling across time zones, and communicates clearly about progress. A good academy will welcome parents observing or joining sessions, especially for younger children.

6. Safeguarding for Children

Since classes take place online, ask whether teachers working with children have passed background and safeguarding checks. This is a basic safety standard every academy teaching minors should meet.
