Job Description

HITACHI RAIL is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Quality Inspector (Wiring) who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Batesburg, SC.

The Senior Quality Inspector is responsible for inspecting incoming materials, in-process work, and finished products to ensure conformance with specifications. Including identifying deficiencies and collaborating with production teams to resolve quality issues.

Accountabilities:

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Setting up, adjusting, and operating inspection equipment, ensuring accuracy and proper functioning
  • Inspecting commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), electronic assemblies, castings, and machined components for dimensional accuracy, workmanship, and compliance with drawings and specifications
  • Inspecting work in progress and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards
  • Conducting audits of inspection records and processes to verify compliance with applicable policies and procedures
  • Preparing and processing inspection paperwork and maintaining accurate records
  • Identifying and quarantining non-conforming products
  • Creating Quality Notifications (QN) and distributing for resolution
  • Training new employees and mentor less-experienced Quality professionals
  • Serving as a liaison with production teams and management to address quality issues, drive continuous improvement, and foster a quality-focused environment
  • Participating in project teams to address manufacturing or quality issues
  • Contributing to process improvements, reducing cycle times, and enhancing efficiency
  • Assisting in the calibration process for inspection equipment
  • Conducting and documenting FAIs
  • Adhering to safety procedures and guidelines as well as company policies and procedures

Must have the ability to:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Analyze quality issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions
  • Effectively communicate findings, document issues, and collaborate with others
  • Lift, stand, walk, and work on concrete surfaces for extended periods of time
  • Lift or lower items weighing < 24lbs (10.9kg) and Push or Pull efforts < 42lbs (19kg)

Required Skills/experience:

  • 5+ years of Quality Inspector experience OR equivalent experience
  • Solid understanding of relevant quality standards and regulations
  • Experience using various inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, height gauges, and vision systems)
  • Skilled using root cause analysis tools (e.g., 8D, 5Ws, Ishikawa)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Expert knowledge of Hitachi Rail products
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and SAP Enterprise Software

Desired skills/experience:

  • Associates Degree in Engineering OR equivalent military experience
  • CMM Certification

Education:

High school diploma or GED

Language:

English proficiency
