Job Description

Overview:

Eden Prairie Montessori is seeking a compassionate, organized, and experienced Preschool Director to lead our South Campus. This role requires a proactive leader who is passionate about early childhood education and adept at managing relationships, guiding staff, and solving problems efficiently. The ideal candidate is a college graduate with prior leadership experience and a deep appreciation for the Montessori philosophy.

This position involves overseeing daily operations, supporting staff, maintaining licensing compliance, and fostering strong connections with families and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:

Staff Management

  • Oversee and support 12+ staff members including teachers and assistants.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching and feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and communicative work environment.

Student Enrollment and Placement

  • Manage the full enrollment process, including family tours, assessments, and classroom placements.
  • Monitor student development and coordinate any necessary support for individual needs.

Curriculum Oversight

  • Support consistent implementation of the Montessori curriculum.
  • Provide classroom guidance, observe teaching practices, and ensure quality standards across age groups (infants, toddlers, preschool).

Compliance and Safety

  • Maintain full compliance with state and local licensing requirements.
  • Oversee health and safety protocols, conduct drills, and manage student records.

Parental Communication

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with families.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom events, and concerns.

Budget and Financial Management

  • Manage the school's budget, tuition collection, and operational spending.
  • Monitor staffing hours and financial efficiency.

Program Development

  • Identify opportunities for continuous program improvement.
  • Support initiatives that enrich children’s experiences (e.g., outdoor learning, arts, special events).

Community Engagement

  • Represent the school within the local community.
  • Host events and partner with organizations to promote Eden Prairie Montessori’s mission and attract new families.

Conflict Resolution

  • Address and mediate any issues that arise among staff, families, or students.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful school culture.

Professional Development

  • Stay current with Montessori best practices and early childhood education standards.
  • Attend conferences and coordinate staff training.

File and Policy Management

  • Maintain accurate staff and student records.
  • Regularly review and update school policies to remain in compliance with regulations.

Reporting

  • Provide updates and reports to the CEO and Managing Director regarding enrollment, staffing, and school operations.

Property and Building Maintenance

  • Ensure proper upkeep of the facility.
  • Establish and enforce routines for cleanliness, repairs, and overall building maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Early Childhood Education, Education Administration, or related field preferred).
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience, ideally in a preschool or early childhood setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and support a team.
  • Knowledge of or commitment to the Montessori philosophy.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and make sound decisions quickly.
