Job Description

Akkodis is seeking an Automation Controls Technician for a Direct Hire / Full-time position with a client in Forney, Texas (Dallas, Texas area).

  • Rate Range: $32.00/hour to $35.00/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
  • Type: Direct Hire; hourly
  • Location: Forney, TX

Automation Controls Technician job responsibilities include:

  • Support troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, sensor, and I/O faults across Siemens-based systems (TIA Portal).
  • Collaborate with engineering to support debugging (but not rewrite programs).
  • Interface with maintenance technicians and assist with more advanced troubleshooting.
  • Work on system commissioning, production escalations, and documentation upkeep.
  • Support preventive maintenance and system improvements.
  • Assist with system start-up, debug, and minor program edits in coordination with vendors and engineers.
  • Help maintain controls documentation, including backups and wiring updates.
  • Provide hands-on support during downtime events and production escalations.
  • Coordinate with engineering and production teams to implement upgrades and improvements.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance and reliability improvement efforts for automation systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+years of industrial automation experience (preferably from automotive, battery manufacturing, or other high-tech industries).
  • Able to:
  • Connect locally or remotely to PLCs
  • Interpret and troubleshoot logic
  • Re-upload from backups if needed
  • Support system testing, fault diagnosis, and root cause analysis
  • Working knowledge of Siemens PLCs (S7-1200/1500) and TIA Portal.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and perform advanced ladder logic troubleshooting.
  • Train and mentor junior techs and maintenance team members on controls troubleshooting and safe electrical practices.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety practices, including LOTO and safe electrical work.
  • Willingness to work cross-shift or on-call during installations and critical events.
  • Experience with robotic systems, AGVs, or conveyor controls.
  • Strong Siemens PLC experience is REQUIRED (S7-1200/1500 via TIA Portal).
  • Experience with robotics systems and conveyor/AGV controls is highly preferred.
  • Strong ability to read and troubleshoot from electrical schematics Preferred Skills:
  • Knowledge of safety protocols (LOTO, electrical safety).

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Familiarity with SCADA/MES layer integration.
  • Basic proficiency in Python or structured text (ST) programming.
